Mijas Mornings

The morning comes slowly. The sun’s rays begin to peek around the curve of the mountains, little by little revealing the gentle beauty of the morning light. The silhouettes of the trees and the still-sleeping village frame the magnificent view of the Mediterranean Sea.

The blue turns pale as the morning invades. Pinks, yellows, oranges. The sky is on fire. My eyes take in the symphony of color.

And while the morning comes slowly, when it does come, it comes fully, beautifully, completely alive. It comes commanding eyes, ears, and attention.

Sky and sea turn into a watercolor painting, exhibiting various shades of blue, watermarks, and textures. The white buildings glow in the sunshine, accented by the flower pots; all the color of a joyful blue.

Bell covered donkeys jingle with each step down the cobble stone streets.

Sweet scents flood the nose of the passerby of each little cafe and bakery.

¬°Hola!’s are exchanged, smiles are swapped.

“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” is understood here, embraced here.

This day has value. This day has beauty. This day has purpose.

I am learning that I have value today, I have beauty today, and I have purpose today.

I am learning so much from these Mijas mornings.

Lattes, Instagram, and Engagement Rings

There is just so much more to life than pumpkin spice lattes, cool Instagram photos, and engagement rings. There has to be, right? Don’t get me wrong, I love pumpkin spice lattes as much as the next person, and I’d love to meet a guy to throw an engagement ring on my finger. But don’t you feel it? Don’t you ever feel like there has to be something more than what this broken, beautiful world has to offer?

Well, I’m here to tell you that there is. Right around the corner of truth and surrender lies a life filled with true freedom; a life of joy and purpose carved out on the path of beauty. I promise you this path is far too glorious for any Instagram filter. It is a life with Jesus. It is a life of entwined hands with your Creator, constant companionship with the God of the universe, and eyes that see past the corners of this broken world. It is a life that becomes a catalyst for love and for change. It is a life that takes leaps of faith, speaks boldly, and listens humbly. It is a life that inspires. It is the greatest¬† adventure you could ever fathom, and the greatest romance your heart could ever experience.

It is through this life, this abundant life, that Jesus has completely captured my heart.
